HELLENIC REPUBLIC ASSET DEVELOPMENT FUND (HRADF) ENERGY UPGRADE
This initiative includes multiple projects focused on energy upgrades and infrastructure developments across key research facilities in Greece, aimed at enhancing their operational capabilities and promoting advanced research in various scientific fields.
1. Hellenic Center for Marine Research (EL.KE.TH.E.): Located in the “Thalassokosmos” complex on the former American Base in Gournes, Crete, this project spans approximately 58 acres dedicated to marine sciences. New infrastructures will be built, including a 2,500 m² office and laboratory building featuring a positive pressure cleanroom for eDNA processing, along with an optics calibration laboratory. Additional constructions include buildings for remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) and a pumping station. JEPA is responsible for the detailed design of the electromechanical (E/M) installations, ensuring high standards of efficiency, safety, and operational effectiveness. This upgrade aims to enhance the center’s research capabilities while following sustainable practices within the Mediterranean region.
2. National Foundation for Research: Situated on Vasileos Konstantinou Street in Athens, this project targets the energy upgrade of a building complex completed in 1968, covering around 13,625 m². The upgrade will elevate the building’s energy classification from D to B+, promoting advanced Research and Development in cutting-edge technologies. The comprehensive MEP design includes improvements to the building envelope, replacement of skylights, creation of new laboratory spaces, and enhancements to restroom facilities and HVAC systems. A photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof, contributing to energy efficiency. JEPA is overseeing the design of the electromechanical systems, ensuring seamless integration and operational effectiveness.
3. Research Center “Athena” in Maroussi: This project focuses on the renovation and energy upgrade of the existing Research Center “Athena,” located at the intersection of Artemis and Epidavrou Streets in Attica. The facility features multiple levels, with the basement dedicated to electromechanical installations and recording studios, while the ground floor includes a 143-seat auditorium, library, and office spaces. JEPA is tasked with designing the electromechanical systems to meet high efficiency standards and enhance the operational capacity of the Research Center, fostering a modern and sustainable environment for its users.
4. Hellenic Pasteur Institute: This project includes constructing a new six-story Biological Safety Laboratory (BSL) with two basements and expanding a four-story Office and Education HUB. The BSL building will house BSL1, BSL2, and BSL3 laboratories to support advanced research in a safe environment. The HUB will feature office spaces and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 200. JEPA is involved in the detailed design of the electromechanical installations, ensuring that all systems are effectively integrated to meet safety and operational standards while promoting modern and sustainable practices.
