ENGINEERS’ & PUBLIC CONTRACTORS’ PENSION FUND (TSMEDE) OFFICE BUILDING
The Central Offices of T.S.M.E.D.E. is a significant public building located at 3-5 Palaion Patrôn Germanou in Klafthmonos Square, Athens. The project’s design includes the restoration and modernization of the existing structure to enhance functionality while preserving its architectural integrity. The total refurbished area is approximately 17,000 m², with an additional surrounding area of 11,000 m². The building is organized into three main functional zones: public spaces for direct interaction with visitors, office areas for administrative operations, and independent operational spaces that include a central management office, a multipurpose room, and a foyer. The design also features a dedicated exhibition area for ancient artifacts, ensuring visual connectivity with the central entrance through a semi-outdoor space.
JEPA was actively involved in the detailed design of the electromechanical installations, which include HVAC systems, electrical installations, grounding and lightning protection, weak currents and intrusion systems, plumbing and drainage, and fire protection. The design incorporates modern energy-saving systems, energy-efficient glazing, solar collectors, and photovoltaic panels, resulting in a contemporary “smart” building with energy autonomy. The architectural structure utilizes exposed reinforced concrete for the ceilings and structural elements, alongside glass for the lightweight partitions. Wooden accents in the atrium and false ceilings complement the exposed concrete and glass, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
This project reflects a seamless blend of functionality and sustainability while promoting the cultural significance of the site, contributing to the enhancement of civic infrastructure within the heart of Athens.
